EDM's x 4

EDM # 119 "rock" I drew two rocks that we have in our collection of rocks that we have picked from each place we have been too (if there was any rocks around). These two are special, they are from two great camping trips we took with the kids.

EDM # 147 "Something out of wood" and its my old rolling pin that I got from my mother, it has been used to bake wonderful breads, sweet breads and cookies (I love my mums baking).
EDM #159 "Favourite cooking tool" my old trusted garlic press and I love adding garlic to many of the dishes we make.

EDM # 117 "Something round" these are three hand made wool balls that I got in a store, because I loved the texture and the natural colours on them. Tied them on to a hemp string and now they hang on to our shed key.

Some more EDM challenges..

EDM # 66 Fire hydrant. When I took my MIL to the trains station, I happen to see a really old fire hydrant close by to the station and I just couldn't help my self, but I had to take some pictures. Its different due to the fact that all the other fire hydrants in town are either all red or yellow with blue tops. But this one, red (now more pink because of all the time outside, worn from the sun and snow) and it has green top and sides, and its now all apple green with hits of rust and even moss.

EDM # 33 Draw an eye, but in my case eyes and this one is of Nina Hagen (a German singer), and she has some wild music videos and there is so much going on in them including her facial expressions (some of them a bit more than crazy), but she is unique.

And this one is a mixture of few EDM's in one # 109 Draw a Clock (we bought an old clock at an antique market in Fredericton, New Brunswick many years ago). EDM # 111 Bowl, and this one is of my small bowl (set of two) that I bought when I was about 16 and it has so far survived the kids...
EDM # 86 Traffic Sign, and this one confused the heck out of me, was the town council doing this as a joke or they just didn't know how to make signs... or is it due to budget cuts and they thought "lets put two signs in one", needless to say, I didn't park there.
And the last EDM # 89 Button, and this one is of one button that I put on to my cover that I made for my Moleskin agenda. Its a metal and a very simple button, but I love it.

More EDM challenges

Did a few more for the May EDM challenges, I have been busy so when ever I found time I sat down and drew one or two... Most very relaxing, this is like therapy.
EDM # 124 "something yellow", and I drew something that is not all that new, made a picture of it before (sold it at an art show), it was a girl with her yellow rain coat and she was standing by a a bus stop, waiting for the rainbow.

EDM # 185 "Cat" and in this case a very sour puss in the window, I took a picture of it when I walked by and saw it sitting there looking all sour... And this is as close as I can get to cats, mega allergies to these little things (my nose gets itchy just thinking about it).

EDM # 55 "Doorknob", I drew it and when I was done it darned on me that this is not a know, but rather a doorknocker... do I feel like a knob.

EDM # ?? Draw a line from a song... This one hit me home when I heard it, its by Duffy (love her voice) and the song is called "Breaking my own heart" and the line that I like goes "Save me, Wont anybody save me, love is killing me, please save me..." In my case it reminds me of when I was a kid, and my mothers so called "Motherly love" was killing me, she suffers from mental illness. (sorry for the blurry picture)

And this is not an EDM drawing, but something I did last Friday, I went for a nice walk with Charlie down to to the Forest (love this place, my own little get away right in the middle of the city)
And here is my painting I did (looking a different direction).

new EDM challenges & yes, more tulips

Okay, today was an interesting day, first a long walk with Charlie. Then rushing home (didn't realize how long we had been out for), quick shower and then drive to my Dr's appt (more allergy testing, talking about epi-pens, shoots and good old creams) and I had some of my joints checked out... And yes, its official, I'm falling apart.
Any hoo, falling apart or not. I did a few more EDM challenges, # 8 Jewelry & # 10 Hands. These are one of the few of my favourite jewelry pieces. The one on my left hand is antique and from my Great aunt and the one on top I got as a child in Finland. It was harder than I thought to draw my hands today, maybe because they are a bit stiff and I just had to get the right angle of my sketch book.
This EDM # 17 Musical Instrument, I just had to draw my sons bagpipes. He has been playing now for over year and half (he is with the Air cadets) and he is doing really well, making both me and the man very proud (okay we lost our hearing in the process, but we are proud). For Mother's Day he played my favourite song "Highland Cathedral"... He's such a good egg : )

Any hoo, after my Dr's appt, I went back down town to draw little bit more tulips. I just had to see them again, just love them so much. It was hard to find a good spot to sketch or paint, the place is packed with tourists... And like every year, I always get a handful of older men telling me "Oh why paint flowers when you can paint me" and they have a huge silly grins on their faces...

And here is one picture that I took of this past its prime tulip, which I think it looks wonderful when they start to get to that point. This one I'm working on to get in to one of my new paintings.

new EDM challenges, # 1, 7 & 9

Had a little bit of "Me time", so I drew a few EDM challenges... #9 "Organized Chaos", its my antique toast rack/caddy. I keep it on my work desk in the kitchen, and it holds all my phone numbers, note books, cards and letter and a few bills (I could live without the last part being there)... # 7 "Jar" I drew a old spice jar that I got from my friend Sandra, she remade it in to a candle.
EDM # 1 "Shoes"... Well this just hits home with me right now, I bought these great summer shoes, but now I cant wear them due to an old injury to my foot (thanks to ice on the street, grrr)
So I have to use the other once to the right, nice and low to the ground *sigh*... They are not as sexy as the other once *double sigh*.

EDM # 6 "Well loved object". Its not the object really that is as much loved as the whole experience I got out of getting them (all before my foot injury). Two half marathons, great family tradition (my husband, sister and brother-in-laws ran the full once and I did the half once), stay in shape, and all the fun memories we had to share with each other, race stories, injuries and aches.
Ahhh, for good old times.

EDM challenge #11 & One devoted dog owner

My next EDM challenge #11 "Glasses"... I don't wear usually glasses, except my sun glasses. I have had perfect eye sight my whole life, except when my allergies gets bad (like right now, so I apologize if my pictures are blurry). So I had to buy a set of reading glasses so I can see what I'm doing while working on my art or reading. My Dr told me not to bother buying expensive glasses, and I can get them in a store cheaper. So I did, and the only frame that kind of worked for me and my face, well was and is this nice pair (sure I can live without the leopard pattern and the fake diamond studs).
Got home and my man asked to see them "put them on, put them on" so I did and there was a long pause from his end...
And then he looked at me with a smirk and said "Oh Edith, you look hot"

Gee thanks love, I feel so much better now. Any how, they feel good on (cant see the print or stund when they are on) and I can see. So here is my Edith Prickly glasses and I had to of course draw them next to the real Edith Prickly "Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!" that's what she used to scream out.

And I did this drawing this morning, of one of my dear walking mates Renee (we walk our dogs together and this how we met, by our dogs). Renee is one of the most devoted dog owners I have ever met or known, she has every dog gear and trinket you could imagine and it always amazes me how she carries them all around on our walks... Its a lot of stuff. Trevor is a lucky dog.

EDM challenge "something green" & spring thoughts

My next EDM drawing challenge, #116 something green. Although I have a ton of stuff that is green (one of my favourite colours), I just couldn't make up my mind on what to draw, and with the weather being what it is today (some how winter came back) I was dreaming about my garden. So my green thumb it is, that's my green for this challenge. Now, I'm not a expert gardener, and my "green" thumb is in training, I just love working in the dirt and work with plants.

This is what it was like last Friday, sunny, blue sky and warm... And the tulips were out.

Then this happen today, we woke up to snow coming down and some even covered the ground a bit. It's cold, windy and wet... Even Charlie refused to step outside, he looked out and let out a big snort and went back to his bed. Spring, where did you go??

EDM Challenge # 269, Something Annoying

Draw something Annoying, I have no problem to find a subject for that topic right now... But whats the most annoying with me, just has to be my allergies and right now its all in my eyes.
They are red, itchy, watery, swollen and my vision is blurry... and did I mention Big time red.

EDM Challenge # 268... something I need

"Something I need"... It was hard to pick one thing, something I really would love to have and feel the need for. Is to have my mum back, so we could talk and share things with with each other and someone I could turn too and she could do the same to me. But the ugly reality is that I don't have it and I cant get it. I don't know how to draw or paint that (at least not right now), it hurts too much to put it on paper or canvas. When I'm ready, I will.

But for now, well I picked my "(HUGE) NEED" to get all my pictures in order, they are seriously in a desperate state and need to be looked over, sorted and organized. When I will find the time? well I don't know, but it has to happen soon... I need to get this task crossed of my list of things to do.

Im back, spring is here...

I cant believe how fast the time has gone by, I finally got better (no fever and my energy is back).

I wish to thank all of you for all your lovely comments, thank you so much.

It took me a while, and I was still sick the first few days of March break. But after that, got better each day and the weather was so nice, so we spent most of our time outdoors... And I finally got of the couch, okay there is a permanent dent on it from me laying on it for days, but I'm up!

Always after I have been sick, I get this huge urge to clean and make things. And as you know from my last post, I love lemons and I might have gone Lemon crazy : ) I just cant get enough of that lovely scent of citrus. Found a few items that have helped me with my lemon/citrus addiction, a wonderful lemon sugar body scrub (Body Shop), my favourite organic soap from Hugo (citrus of course) and yellow tulips... And now I'm working on a painting, that has a lot of yellows and spring greens in it. I also made a new arrangement in my glass bell, butterflies and real silk cocoons, things that reminds me of spring and new beginnings. And my daughter and I made a few Easter eggs, old music paper collage eggs.

Other than that, I have been busy with work (had a ton to catch up too) and I have found some time to sketch a bit (not really one a day, but almost). One is again a EDM challenge, draw on the bus? But did that, as we sat stuck in traffic so the bus was still... but most of it was finished at home. Funny part of the people I drew, is the older lady who looked like she was ridding against the wind with her wild hair. The girl next to her was not too pleased with her sitting so close to her, I don't blame her, she was practically sitting on her lap.

But like I said, I had so much to catch up too, or at times it feels like time is trying to catch up to me... This is how I felt two days ago, everything was just coming at me and needing all my attention all at once.
But! I have to say that I think I rather feel like this, than as a couch potato...

Happy Spring to all of you, I hope that all is well with each every one of you.

EDM challenge... bit of sense of smell...

First of all, I wish to thank all of you for your great comments from my last post... You know how to make a gal feel better : )
Woke up feeling a bit better, and I have some sense of smell back (later in the day I lost it again and my head ache is back, but it's getting better). I'm spending a bit more time here on the couch (right now I have competition for space, my man is snoring away while I'm doing this).

Any hooo, I got very excited this morning when I got my sense of smell back for a while, and when I get that after a cold I know its getting better... And then I go nuts with cleaning. It feels good to get everything cleaned out after you have been glued down for days. And I looked at different past EDM challenges for inspiration and this one is perfect for me right now.

My favourite cleaning supplies "Lemons, Lemons and more Lemons" I just love the citrus scent.

As soon as I get my energy back, look out lemons...

EDM drawing challenge... Hair

Okay, so this is not a pretty picture, but the moment was not pretty either... I wanted to draw something about it and I saw one of the older EDM drawing challenges was "hair". I would like to draw something pretty and wonderful, love how hair looks in water or blowing in the wind.

But like I said my hair moment was anything but pretty. Any one of you with kids or taken care of kids, you know we all get the times of when kids drive us just up the wall, and having small kids throwing tantrums and screaming their heads off, just makes us wanting to pull our hair out. Well, in my case my small kid is not so small any more, my daughter is 15 with a heart of a 5 year old, taller than me and much louder than a few years back. She decided that Sunday was her day to throw one huge tantrum after the other, and I was going nuts...

And after 12 hours of her screaming, I was pretty sure I had no hair left on my head (plus I had a head ache and my ears rang to boot)... Then out of the blue she stopped and peace had yet again found its way back home. Before she went to bed, I lay down beside her and we talked (in her own words, she had been mad because she wanted celebrate "happy ending" last day of February... she loves parties and she creates new holidays). With her head resting on my shoulder, we read through a decorating magazine and soon after she fell a sleep... Ahhhhh

They do look so cute when they are a sleep, no matter of age.
And this is how my son & dog dealt with their sister screaming up the storm, they covered their ears with pillows and fell a sleep... I heard the snoring and lifted up the pillows so they can get air, did not even notice me, so I took a few pictures...

And the end story of this hairy moment, is that it all ended in a very nice quiet fashion and I still have my hair left (Im surprised), my son got a good nap and daugter got up this morning in a good mood. Happy Monday everyone : )

new EDM challenges & more

EDM challenge #91, draw an apple... They are not apples but rather candles I bought for Christmas, and my daughter made them look like apple cores, she ate them and I found them in a small basket she had in her room. In ink and China crayon

And this picture I painted while we took a break at the workshop I was on during the weekend.
First drew it then painted her dress and hair in acrylics and later put glass bead gel on the dress.

EDM drawing challenges

Here is two EDM drawing challenges I made, I don't remember the number for the "Bird" drawing... I made it a while ago, but I was not happy with it so today I sketched another one for it. Its from when my sons pet bird Fred passed away. He was my sons best friend for many years and really funny bird too, my son taught him to shake hand, dance (yes dance, rock his head)and come when called. This is the second drawing I made, I like this one better.

And the next picture is of EDM drawing challenge # 256 "bubbles"
Its from a bubble moment my daughter had when she was younger... Sorry, picture is not in good shape.

EDM challenge # 248 "lock"

well this brought back memories for me... "Lock"
Or in my case its more "locks" as it was pretty much all my husband and I could think about when our daughter was between two and eight, she got in to everything you could ever imagine. And our battle was not only to keep her safe and out of danger, but to save out stuff from her ten busy fingers. This girl knew how to how to break, chew and rip things apart, but also to do so very fast. Ahhh, those were the days. Thank heavens she grew out of that stage.

EDM challenge # 253

My next EDM drawing challenge, # 253 draw your socks. In our house hold, we have a truck load of miss match socks, awaiting for their partners to show up (not much luck there, the pile just keeps growing). We believe there is something to the dryer legend, that it eats socks. But we know that Charlie likes to take care of few here and there. Leaving us with not many socks to wear in style.
